Harmonica Blues Legend passes at home Oct 24, 2006
Lord, we'll miss you, Snooky!
| October 27, 2006 -
This is a tough one to write. Snooky Prior was one of my inspirations, and
though I only knew him through his recordings, I always felt like there was
a connection between us. His strong, unabashed wailing harmonica and honest
down-to-earth singing style captured me young, and some of his songs became
my own standards. It was his spirit that attracted me to his music, and its
his spirit that the world still has today. Snooky is gone from this mortal
realm. He was the witness to many trials and tribulations, and stood tall
throughout. I know that when he approached the seat of judgement, he was
ushered into paradise in a golden beam. People say he was the first harp
player to play through an amplifier - I believe it. He would have been
trying to sound like the trumpets at Jericho. It was partially due to that
call of his that I came to the blues. I am humbled in the shadow of his
musical accomplishments, and in the straight and narrow grace with which he
lived his life. -----Bear Claw Bob
